Twitter Hashtags for Authors

February 20, 2014

This post contains a growing collection of Twitter hashtags for authors. (I highly recommend checking out the Pitch Session hashtags—how damn cool is that?!) You can use an app like Tweetdeck to track your favorite hashtags or simply search for them on Twitter.

Agents & Query Advice
  • #AskAgent: Individual agents and agencies tend to schedule these for specific dates/times, so keep an eye on the hashtag for details.
  • #MSWL (Manuscript Wish List): Usually relegated to specific days throughout the year, agents will tweet what's on their literary wish-list. Some will post their wish lists throughout the year regardless of event dates.
  • #TenQueries: Agents tweet about the effectiveness of the next ten queries in their submission pile.
  • #10Queriesin10Tweets: Same premise as #TenQueries.
  • #QueryParty: Like #tenqueries, agents discuss the effectiveness of queries that recently arrived in their submission pile.
  • #QueryTips
  • #SlushPile: A mixture of rants and advice from literary agents.

Twitter Pitch Sessions with Agents/ Pitch Contests
  • #AdPit: A bi-yearly pitch contest for books in the Adult genre.
  • #CLCBSD (Cupid's Literary Connection)http://www.cupidslitconnection.blogspot.com
  • #PitchPlus1: A pitch contest for Middle Grade, Young Adult, and New Adult manuscripts. http://adventuresinyacontests.blogspot.com/p/contest-rules.html
  • #PitMad: A semi-frequent event where authors pitch their book on Twitter with the #PitMad hashtag as well as the hashtag for their genre (#YA#MG#A#NA#PB and #NF). If an agent favorites your pitch, follow the submission guidelines on their website. (Be sure to mention that they reached out to you via Twitter in your query!)
  • #Pitchmas: #PitMad in December.
  • #PitchMadness: A bi-yearly event held in March and September. Hosted by Brenda Drake. Unlike #PitMad, entries are not submitted via Twitter. More from her website:
    • Pitch Madness is a contest held every March and September where writers enter for a chance to win requests from the participating agents. Writers submit a 35-word (max) pitch and the first 250 words of their completed manuscript on submission day. Then for two weeks a team of readers choose the top sixty (60) entries to go onto the agent round. The agents play a game against the other agents to win requests for more pages of their favorite entries. The best played agent request wins either a partial or full manuscript read of the entry.
